1ST KYFL FESTIVAL OF THE 2015/16 SEASON

The Kernow Youth Football League hosted its first friendly festival of the 2015/16 Season for players in age groups Under 7's, 8's and 9's at Mounts Bay with the dreary wet weather failing to dampen the enthusiasm of players and coaches alike.

After a morning of fantastic fixtures KYFL Chairman Peter Roe said,"I would like to congratulate everyone who helped run this Festival at Mounts Bay as always the league committee members worked very hard to make is successful."

KYFL Secretary Debbie Knowles commented, "This was one of the best events we have held so far, everyone enjoyed it a lot and well done to all the youth players for some great football"

All of the players were presented with a certificate at the end to congratulate them for their excellent participation.

KERNOW YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE COMMITTEE INSPIRED BY MEETING WITH CHRIS MORRIS

The committee of the KYFL welcomed new Cornwall County Coach Developer Chris Morris to their latest meeting and were inspired by his input.

Chris explained that his role was appointed by the FA to work within Cornwall enhancing and building on the present provision of education and support for football coaches from grassroots to the elite level.

Chris Morris

A former player himself within Cornwall Chris played at Premier League level and represented the Republic of Ireland Internationally. Chris is a level 4 coach who has been working with Exeter City Football Club In their Academy for a number of years as a tutor and lecturer in local further education. This is an exciting opportunity for coaching support and development to be offered in a much more bespoke way, tailored to each coach’s needs.

Chris explained that he hoped to work with clubs and coaches to help make courses such as the FA Youth Module 1- Developing the Environment, FA Youth Module 2- Developing the Practice and the FA Youth Module 3- Developing the Player more accessible and flexible so that more coaches could attend and attain them therefore improving the quality of coaching and ultimately players across the county.

KYFL Chair Peter Roe commented,"This all sounds really good and positve and our committee will be supporting Chris in his new role and encouraging clubs and coaches to do the same."

Chris Morris replied, "I have a really exciting opportunity to work within grassroots football in Cornwall and to make a positive impact on the development of coaches and players."

The KYFL will be hosting a whole league meeting with Chris Morris for its member clubs and coaches to attend in the new year with details to be confirmed on the KYFL website in due course.

Peter explained that the money was from donations collected across the 3 KYFL Cup Finals Days at the end of the 2014/15 Season.Mary Murfin commented," Thank you to the league and everyone who has supported and given so generously to this wonderful donation it will help us support families whose children are living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions."

Participation Certificates were then presented to all clubs who had played within the Under 7's - 10's age groups.

Peter Roe then gave his Chairman's report thanking clubs and members for their participation and support throughout the season. Peter also congratulated the league and its member clubs for winning the County FA Charter Standard League Award which was presented by Cornwall FA.

League Secretary Debbie Knowles offered her report stating that 39 clubs had registered for the 2014/15 Season with 203 teams and player registrations of 2485 which was higher than the previous season.

Debbie complimented the boys leagues for completing almost all the fixtures across the season. Debbie commented that several teams had withdrawn very early on especially in the girls leagues and that, whilst the Under 16's girls had completed fixtures well, the Under 10's/12's and 14's had not played many of their matches.

Debbie confirmed that the KYFL was committed to running girls football again for the 2015/16 and hoped to work with clubs to build on provision of girls football across the county.

League Treasurer Sharon Martin reported a positive balance within the league accounts and confirmed that the league will again be offering support to its member clubs towards goal post purchase and courses including Level 1's, First Aid, Safeguarding and DBS.

Three new clubs were elected to the league for the 2015/16 Season - Mevagissey Under 15's, Redruth United Under 16's and Cornwall Rockets Under 8's.

The KYFL Season will commence on the 13th September 2015 and conclude on the 22nd May 2016.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KERNOWLEAGUE

Dear KYFL Member Clubs

In addition to support already offered by the KYFL to help member clubs qualify their coaching staff and obtain/retain their Charter Standard we will this season (2014/15) be offering further support by way of refunding the cost of one standalone First Aid course, one standalone Safeguarding course and one D&BS Application.

All 3 of these qualifications are renewable after 3 years so we hope that offering to refund the cost of one of each per club this season will help support clubs to keep up to date and achieve/retain their Charter Standard. First Aid: To obtain a refund of the £20 cost of one standalone First Aid course simply provide the KYFL Treasurer with a copy of a certificate for a First Aid course completed this season by a coach attached on the KYFL website to one of your clubs current teams.

Safeguarding: To obtain a refund of the £20 cost of one Safeguarding course simply provide the KYFL Treasurer with a copy of a certificate for a Safeguarding course completed this season by a coach attached on the KYFL website to one of your clubs current teams. This can be either an on-line course or a physically attended one.

D&BS: The KYFL will refund the cost of one Accepted Disclosure and Barring Service Application per club for the 2014/15 Season. For online applications this will be £10 and for paper versions £20. The refund can be obtained in respect of one coach attached to one of your clubs current teams on the KYFL website for an application submitted this season whether it is a new application or a renewal.

As receipts are not provided as a matter of course for D&BS checks to obtain one refund as described please submit a request with details of the coach/team the application was completed for to KYFL Treasurer signed by your club treasurer/chair on club headed paper.

NB: First Aid/Safeguarding refunds are for offered for renewals after the 3 years from first qualification not when completed as part of a Level 1 coaching course.

Level 1 Coaching Certificate Support: A reminder to all clubs that your league will support your club in qualifying all your coaches as Level 1 by refunding £25 per course for coaches attached to your youth teams. All you need to do to obtain your £25 is to provide proof of completion of the course this season by sending a copy of each certificate to the KYFL Treasurer Sharon Martin (details on the KYFL website). The qualified coaches must be attached to a current youth team within your club on the KYFL website.

Kids football is changing - smaller pitches - smaller teams - smaller goals - child friendly competition

In 2012, The FA formally ratified some of the recommendations of the Youth Development Review. These amendments to the youth game can be accessed via individual guidance booklets by clicking the links below.

These amendments have been developed over two years of research, consultations and listening to those involved in the youth game, most importantly those that play the children.

These positive changes will be phased in from 2013/2014 and have been put in place to improve enjoyment, fun and development of young players allowing more touches, on a better proportioned pitch with an increase of involvement in the game as a whole. The changes within The FA’s Youth Development Review will make youth football better for everyone involved.

We are delighted to announce that the Kernow Youth Football League has been awarded FA Charter Standard League status. The award was presented by Cornwall FA's Chief Executive Dawn Aberdeen at half-time during a recent match at Truro City FC.

Debbie Knowles said," We are so pleased to receive this award. It takes a bit of work to attain but it is worth a lot to us and our clubs."

Thanks are due to Phil Cardew, Cornwall FA's Football Development Officer, for his help and support with our application.

The Charter Standard League programme aims to offer everybody in grassroots football a high quality, safe, enjoyable experience that is nationally recognised and we are very proud to have achieved the standard.
